What if I was caught playing unlicensed music before I had Melodial?

Unfortunately, switching to Melodial doesn't resolve past infringements. If a licensing organisation has evidence that you played unlicensed music (e.g. Spotify, YouTube, or radio) before you subscribed, they may still pursue payment for that period.

Our advice:

- Request evidence — Ask for the specific date, time, and what music was identified. They should have this documented.

- Consider negotiating — Licensing organisations often settle for less than their initial demand, especially for small businesses. Explain it was an honest mistake and offer a reasonable amount.

- Get covered now — Make sure you're using Melodial going forward so you're fully protected from this point on.

This isn't legal advice, but if the amount is significant, it may be worth consulting a solicitor.
