How to Connect an Amazon Echo Dot to Play Melodial

Play Melodial through your Echo Dot using Bluetooth. Works with iPhone and Android — takes about 2 minutes. Works with all Echo Dot generations (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Gen).

What You'll Need

Before you start: Make sure your Echo Dot is plugged in, powered on, and connected to WiFi. You'll also need the Melodial app or web player open on your phone.

Step 1: Put Your Echo Dot in Pairing Mode

The easiest way is with your voice — just say to your Echo Dot: "Alexa, pair"

Alexa will say something like "Searching for devices to pair with". That means your Echo Dot is now in Bluetooth pairing mode and ready to connect.

If the voice command doesn't work: Hold down the Action button (the button with a dot on it) for about 3 seconds until the light ring turns orange. This manually puts the Echo Dot into pairing mode.

Important: Your Echo Dot must be in pairing mode before it will appear in your phone's Bluetooth list. If you don't see it, say "Alexa, pair" again and then refresh Bluetooth on your phone.

Step 2: Connect on iPhone/iPad

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.

2. Tap Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.

3. Wait for "Echo Dot" (or "Echo Dot-XXX") to appear under "Other Devices".

4. Tap "Echo Dot" to connect.

5. Alexa will announce "Connected to [your phone name]" when the pairing is complete.

Step 2 (Alternative): Connect on Android

1. Swipe down from the top of your screen and long-press the Bluetooth icon, or go to Settings → Connected devices → Bluetooth.

2. Turn on Bluetooth and tap "Pair new device" (or "Scan" on some phones).

3. Tap "Echo Dot" in the list of available devices.

4. Confirm the pairing if prompted by tapping Pair or OK.

5. Alexa will announce "Connected to [your phone name]".

Step 3: Open Melodial and Press Play

Music from Melodial will now play through your Echo Dot. Open the Melodial app or web player and start playing — the audio will come through the Echo Dot.

Troubleshooting

If the Echo Dot doesn't appear in your Bluetooth list: Say "Alexa, pair" again and refresh your phone's Bluetooth scan.

If the connection drops: Say "Alexa, connect" to reconnect without going through the full pairing process again.

If Alexa speaks over your music: This is normal — voice responses from Alexa will interrupt music briefly, then resume automatically.
